Enterprise Rent-A-Car Question

I needed to rent a car this weekend, and I found a $20 off coupon from Enterprise. However, the coupon's only good for a rental of at least $40 before taxes and fees. The only not-hundreds-of-dollars rate that qualified was for a Prius. Do I have a chance of changing the rental at the counter to something more interesting, even if it's technically a downgrade?

Dammit Swede, just call the agency!

Central reservations is playing coy and the person at the office didn't know.

Meh, go with the Prius... it's only a rental car so you'll have it for just a few days anyways and you might as well enjoy having a roomy interior and decent MPG so it'll be lighter on your wallet when you fill 'er up

Yes. I used them for my rental when I was getting hail damage fixed.

I was allowed to down grade at the counter. Took a Fiesta for fun. Drove off the lot when I realized it didn't have cruise. Took it back, they gave me my pick of what was on the lot. At that point the Dodge Avenger was the most interesting. Drove it for a week, put almost 2500 kilometers on it. They never asked questions or batted an eyelash.

I use Enterprise for 95% of my rental needs, honestly what they tell you on the phone and what you get in person all depends on what they have on hand when you get there. I rarely ever get what I was told I would on the phone, which can be a good thing or a bad thing lol.

Just go ahead, it's like a lottery.

I told the guy at the counter that I was allergic to Altima's and without even blinking he set me up in a convertible Mustang. Think he appreciated the joke but didn't really acknowledge it.. Anyway I get a lot of rentals and it always seems they can do what they want generally but having a discounted rate my hold ya back in the favors department.
